Raymond Poisson, creator of the role of Crispin - Edelinck after T. Netscher
Description
This portrait was probably executed after the actor's death on May 9, 1690, as the accompanying verses resemble two epitaphs. The first, on the left, is copied from Jacob Gole's engraving, which must have preceded.
Raymond Poisson created in France the role of Crispin in Scarron's play, L'Écolier de Salamanque, at the Théâtre de l'Hôtel de Bourgogne, in 1654.
- Signed under the engraving legend at left "T. Netscher pinx.", center "a Paris chez I. Audran graveur du Roy au Gobelins", right "G. Edelinck Effigiem sculp. C. P. R." (= cum privilegio regis).
