Description
It is likely that the portrait was executed after the actor's death on May 9, 1690, the accompanying verses resembling an epitaph.
Raymond Poisson, known as Belleroche, was an actor at the Hôtel de Bourgogne from 1660 to 1685. From 1680, the troupe at the Hôtel de Bourgogne and that at the Hôtel de Guénégaud, led by Molière, were merged by royal decree, giving rise to the Comédie française. The hall at the Hôtel de Bourgogne was then given over to Italian comedy.
