La Motte helps Adeline (The Forest, vol.1, Denné, An II) - Louvion

Description

It's the beginning of the novel: La Motte and his wife have had to leave Paris in debt to find an isolated, forgotten asylum. But on the way, as night falls, they reach a lighted house and La Motte asks for hospitality. But the house is a den of brigands and La Motte is locked in and blackmailed into taking a frightened young woman, Adeline, with him, on pain of death. La Motte accepts and leads Adeline, who is blindfolded, to his carriage.
