Story of Umar an-Nu'mân (Thousand and One Nights, Manchester ms, p306)

Description

The Basileus Afrīdūn has come out of his palace to meet King Hardub, who has come to tell him that King Umar an-Numan has been poisoned, and to unite with him in the war against the Muslims.

The frame of the image might lead one to believe that the scene is taking place in the Basileus' palace in Constantinople. But one detail proves otherwise: Afridun is not seated on the curule seat that usually serves as a throne inside the palace, but on a vast portable throne, identical to the one used by Daw al-Makân for his enthronement (see p. 244).
