Albert discovers a strange chest (Le Château mystérieux, Maradan, t1)

Albert, an orphan raised by the Mowbray family, spends a night alone in a ruined castle that belongs to them. He visits several abandoned rooms and discovers one containing a strange wooden chest. As he opens it, the air inside ignites on contact with his lamp, illuminating the dark surroundings with a strange light.

In reality, Albert is the rightful heir of the Mowbrays. His adoptive father, in truth his uncle, had in the past caused the death of both his real father and his mother. The latter's remains had been secretly deposited in the wooden chest visible in the image.
