Makin, vignette (Baculard d'Arnaud, The Trials of Emotion vol4) - Marillier

Description

Marin and Hélène, two lovers who have fled their family homes to live their love to the full, have washed up on an island where they spend many years in autarky. Their children are born and raised there, forming a harmonious little community.

The vignette depicts a moment when Makin is picking fruit while Hélène, surrounded by her children, places it in a basket. The idyllic setting evokes an earthly paradise, a symbol of simple, virtuous happiness.
