Germeuil, cul-de-lampe (Baculard d'Arnaud, The Trials of Emotion vol4) - Le Grand after Marillier

Description

This allegorical cul-de-lampe depicts the figures of Love and Vice. The former, armed with a quiver full of arrows and a bow, attacks the latter, on the ground, endowed with small wings and holding snakes in her hand. This resonates with the short story Germeuil, in which a gullible man gives in to schemers before becoming aware of his actions and fending them off.
