Booklet from the 1775 Salon:
"By M. Vanloo, Professor.
[...] 16. La Sultane servie par des Eunuques noirs & des Eunuques blancs
Tableau 15 feet wide, by 10 feet high.
[...] These Paintings are for the King & intended to be executed in Tapestry."
History :
- Signed and dated lower right toward center on the step: "Amédée Vanloo 1773".
- Part of a series of 5 tapestry cartoons Usages et modes du Levant, produced from 1772 to 1775, commissioned by the Marquis de Marigny for the Gobelins.
Only 4 were painted and exhibited at the Salon of 1775.
Collection of Louis XVI.
Sent on deposit to the Musée des Arts Décoratifs on May 18, 1911.
Deposited to the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Nice on August 18, 1927.
