In Paradise. (Book XI, 208-210)
God has commissioned Michael to announce to Adam and Eve their expulsion from the Garden of Eden. He descends from heaven accompanied by a horde of cherubim, not only to deliver the message, but also to dissuade Satan from seizing Eden or defending Adam and Eve if he had the will to do so.
