Description
Clarisse is summoned before the Harlove family assembly to give an account of Lovelace's visits to her during her stay with her friend Miss Howe.
Clarisse is seated on the left, next to her mother, looking at the reader.
Opposite her and on the other side of the engraving, Clarisse's brother James has his arm in a sling following the wound Lovelace inflicted on him in a duel. His sword can be seen at his side.
Mr. Harlowe, who suffers from gout, holds a cane and has a bandaged foot (CH1985, L7 pp. 58-61; CH1999I, pp. 87-91).
