Ariodante sees Polinesso on the balcony (Orlando Furioso, Plassan 1795, c.5) - Moreau le jeune
Notice précédente Notice n°2 sur 3 Notice suivante
Description
Ariodante and his brother Lurcanio witness Polinesso's kiss with Dalinda disguised as Ginevra, on the balcony of the royal palace. In extremis, Lurcanio prevents Ariodante from committing suicide by throwing himself on his sword.
In the background, the balcony where Polinesso kisses Dalinda is the small space of the stage, the place of the performance. Both Ariodante and Lurcanio have been looking out from the vague space. Lurcanio forms a screen between Ariodante and the restricted space: his body hugs the diagonal of the engraving.
