Shortly after marrying Procris, Cephalus is abducted by the goddess Aurora, who has fallen in love with him. Cephalus remains faithful, so Aurora decides to take revenge. Procris is persuaded that her husband is unfaithful to her. She goes to spy on him in the forest where he has gone hunting, and he kills her with his javelin, mistaking her for an animal. It is the very javelin that Procris had given him.
