Description
Booklet from the 1769 Salon:
"By Mr. Greuze, Agréé.
152. La Mère bien aimée, caressée par ses Enfans.
De 4 pieds de large, sur 3pieds de haut. "
But Diderot writes :
"The libretto announces La Mère bien-aimée caressée par ses enfants, but this piece, of which I've heard so much, has not been exhibited. "
In the Salon of 1765, on the other hand, he commented at length on the sketch of the head (Portrait de Mme Greuze, no. 115, Versini 385-6) and the overall composition (no. 123, Versini 388-9).
