History :
  1. Signed and dated in the center : "Chardin 1760".
  2. Collection of Jacques Roettiers (1707-1784), goldsmith to the king, in 1761. Montaleau sale, July 19, 1802, no. 25. Collection of François de Marcille, then his son Camille. Marcille sale, March 6-7, 1876, no. 17. Acquired by the merchant Bourgeois, Cologne. Collection of Baron Henry de Rotschild, then one of his descendants.
  3. During: The jar of apricots.
    A replica of this painting, which may not be by Chardin, comes from the La Caze collection and is kept at the Louvre.
