Description
Alexis, who has decided to flee the cottage where his lover is staying, is walking through the forest when he comes across Carlo Sciocco, who is trying to get out of an underground den of brigands. Sciocco evokes the picaro type, and the encounter recalls the beginning of Lesage's Gil Blas . He has managed to sedate his jailers with opium and is now trying to escape through the trapdoor that conceals the underground as Alexis passes by.
