Description
The Marquis de Montalt has sworn the death of Adeline, with whom he had hoped to marry only a short time before. La Motte, who is staying with the Marquis and who had initially introduced Adeline to the Marquis, finds himself trapped because he is forced to kill Adeline in order to stay in the Marquis' abbey, which allows him to escape his creditors. He therefore takes advantage of one night to break into the room where Adeline is sleeping and prepares to murder her.
