Description
On the left, Aeneas, from Carthage, sends Achate to fetch Ascagne, who has remained aboard the Trojan ship, for the banquet to which Dido has invited them. On the right, in parallel, Venus organizes the substitution. Note the highly atypical depiction of Cupid, as a bearded ruler rather than a cherubic child.
