Cleveland delivered to an English ship (Cleveland, Neaulme ed., 1732)

Description

Cleveland has set sail to find Fanny, who has gone to the New World with her father. During the crossing, he befriends the ship's captain, John Will. But Will falls in love with Mme Lallin, a friend of Cleveland's who accompanied him on his voyage. Convinced that Cleveland is his rival and Mme Lallin's lover, John Will decides to betray him and hand him over to the first English ship he comes across, on the pretext of delivering him into Cromwell's hands.

In the image, Cleveland is certainly in the longboat set sail: he is being led unwillingly to another ship.
