Description

The mosaic consists of two scenes.

Context: Jacob agrees to keep Laban's flock for 7 years if Laban gives him his youngest daughter Rachel in marriage. But after 7 years, Laban gives away Leah, his eldest daughter. Jacob will get Rachel as his second wife in return for 7 more years of service.

Top: Jacob returns from his first 7 years of service, symbolized by 7 sheep. He extends his hand to Laban, who gives him Leah, clasped to her mother Adinah.

Bottom (the lower part of this scene has disappeared): Jacob makes a second pact with Laban (left) and marries Rachel (right) in exchange for 7 more years of work.
